History

Due to a lengthy history of trade, Sweden holds significant economic influence in the United States. As early as 1783, Sweden became the first nation to establish a trade agreement with the U.S. Presently, Swedish exports to the U.S. contribute $10.2 billion annually, positioning the U.S. as Sweden's fourth-largest export partner. Swedish foreign direct investment (FDI) in the U.S. surpasses $50 billion, ranking Sweden as the 11th largest investor in the country. The economic ties between Sweden and the U.S. support over 300,000 American jobs. Additionally, Sweden's membership in the European Union (EU) underscores its role as the U.S.'s largest economic partner.
